The CPCE Presidium and General Secretary have sent a letter of solidarity to the member churches of the Fellowship of the Middle East Evangelical Churches for Advent and Christmas. The two church communions have been closely linked for many years.
The letter states: “In these days of Advent 2023, our thoughts turn again to the places of God`s history with God’s people – the land of Abraham and the Land of Jesus from Nazareth. We are filled with sadness reading the words of Isaiah as those describing the current situation in this very special part of the world – the Land of the patriarchs, prophets and apostles. We see how darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples. (Isaiah 60:2) We hear the screaming of the scared, the crying of the mourning, and the silence of those losing their hope.”
In this situation, the letter would like to express closeness and compassion to the Protestant churches in the Middle East, trusting in the shared hope and faith in Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace.
The CPCE leadership assures the churches and Christians in the Middle East that it will continue to pray for them and work to ensure that their experiences and thoughts are also heard in Europe.

Das Präsidium und der Generalsekretär der GEKE haben zu Advent und Weihnachten einen Solidaritätsbrief an die Mitgliedskirchen der Fellowship of the Middle East Evangelical Churches gesandt. Beide Kirchengemeinschaften sind einander seit Jahren eng verbunden.
Im Brief heißt es: „In diesen Tagen des Advents 2023 richten sich unsere Gedanken wieder auf die Orte der Geschichte Gottes mit seinem Volk – das Land Abrahams und das Land Jesu von Nazareth. Es erfüllt uns mit Traurigkeit, wenn wir die Worte Jesajas lesen, die die aktuelle Situation in diesem ganz besonderen Teil der Welt beschreiben – dem Land der Patriarchen, Propheten und Apostel. Wir sehen, wie Dunkelheit die Erde bedeckt und dichte Finsternis über den Völkern liegt. (Jes 60,2) Wir hören die Schreie der Verängstigten, das Weinen der Trauernden und das Schweigen derer, die ihre Hoffnung verloren haben.“
In dieser Situation möchte der Brief den evangelischen Kirchen im Nahen Osten Verbundenheit und Mitgefühl bekunden, im Vertrauen auf die gemeinsame Hoffnung und den gemeinsamen Glauben an Jesus Christus, den Friedensfürsten.
Die Leitung der GEKE versichert den Kirchen und Christinnen und Christen im Nahen Osten, weiterhin für sie zu beten und sich dafür einzusetzen, dass Ihre Erfahrungen und Ansichten auch in Europa gehört werden.
