How do churches engage with societal transformation? How are churches changing, and how is their theology evolving? What threats does democracy face in our region, and how are churches responding? These are some of the questions that the regional groups of the CPCE will be addressing in the coming years.
On 10-11 September 2025, the leaders of the CPCE regional groups met at the John Knox Centre in Geneva. It was the first meeting of its kind since the CPCE General Assembly in summer 2024. The agenda focussed on how the regional groups could take forward the topics of the General Assembly in their own activities. Two key topics merged: the topic of ‘Church and Democracy’, which the General Assembly had already assigned to the regional groups, will be explored in greater depth in the years ahead. A second topic will be ‘Theology in Times of Change’ and new and evolving forms of church work – an area where several regional groups have already shared ideas.
Thanks to the hospitality of the Protestant Church in Switzerland, the group had the opportunity to meet with representantives of the local (and cantonal) Protestant church and with colleagues, who have long been engaged in ecumenical work in Geneva.
