“The CPCE thrives on a conciliatory approach to diversity. The CPCE will continue along this path,” announced Dr Susanne Schenk, the incoming CPCE’s Secretary General, at the press conference marking her appointment. She hopes that the CPCE’s capacity for dialogue will also set an example in an increasingly heterogeneous and conflict-ridden social and political environment.
Schenk emphasized that the CPCE’s strength lies precisely in its diversity, but that this must be actively moderated and held together by trust.
In his review, outgoing General Secretary Mario Fischer highlighted the CPCE’s development from a predominantly academic discussion platform into a community acting in solidarity. He cited the “Euro-Orphans” aid project and support for refugees in Greece as particular “projects close to his heart” during his term of office. From May, Mario Fischer will head the Centre for Ecumenical Studies in Bensheim.
The new General Secretary’s first virtual press conference met with a very positive response overall – both within the member churches and in the context of church journalism.
