When the conversation turns to this crucial interface between churches and wider society, where should one begin? Do we need a theology of blessing? Should we focus on the biographies of the people we accompany? Are initiatives such as occasional service agencies or pop-up weddings the way forward? Or is the decisive question that of the minima liturgica—the essential elements that identify an occasional service as Christian practice?

These and other questions were discussed by the CPCE Liturgical Advisory Board in Frankfurt am Main, where it met for just under 24 hours on 19–20 February to prepare the Worship Consultation to be held on 2–5 November 2026.

The “Zentrum Verkündigung” proved to be—and will again be—a gracious host. It provided the setting for a conversation that brought perspectives from Scotland, Switzerland, and Serbia—among others—into fruitful dialogue.

The Liturgical Advisory Board looks forward to continuing and deepening the discussion within the consultation in November. Nominations by the churches are now open.
