Eine verschwindend kleine evangelisch-lutherische Diasporakirche, die Evangelische Kirche A.B. in Rumänien, macht sich Gedanken zu ihrem Missionsauftrag in der Gesellschaft. Dabei geht es nicht um Wirken in einem säkularen Umfeld, sondern in einem stark religiösen und orthodox geprägten Land. Hier ist der Vorwurf der Proselytenmacherei schnell auf dem Tisch. Kann und soll eine Diasporakirche an „öffentlicher Theologie“ teilhaben? Welches Ziel kann Mission überhaupt haben? Um Antworten auf diese Fragen hat ein vom Zentrum Evangelische Theologie Ost (ZETO)nach Bukarest einberufener Tisch gerungen, an dem Theologen und Theologinnen aus unterschiedlichen Kontexten und Regionen Europas beteiligt waren. Auch wenn das Nachdenken dem Wirken einer Einzelkirche galt, so sind die Ergebnisse auf die Situation aller evangelischen Kirchen im orthodoxen Umfeld übertragbar.

A tiny Protestant Lutheran diaspora church, the Evangelical Church A.C. in Romania, is reflecting on its mission in society. This is not about working in a secular environment, but in a strongly religious and Orthodox country. Here, accusations of proselytism are quickly levelled. Can and should a diaspora church participate in ‘public theology’? What goal can mission even have? A round table convened in Bucharest by the Centre for Protestant Theology in Eastern Europe (ZETO) sought answers to these questions, with the participation of theologians from different contexts and regions of Europe. Even though the discussion focused on the work of a single church, the results can be applied to the situation of all Protestant churches in an Orthodox environment.
