And indeed, Francis‘ pontificate was characterised by new beginnings and hope. His approachable manner, close to the people, has given the Church a friendly face. Under him, the World Synod, at which the most diverse currents sat around the table, became possible. Women were promoted to leading positions. Church functionaries who were no longer acceptable were dismissed. His commitment to the integrity of creation (Laudato Si‘), to social justice and his clear position on issues of migration and poverty have strongly characterised the image of the Catholic Church in recent years.<\/p>\n
I have great respect for the courage of this servant of the Church, who has set a lot in motion. It was touching that he \u2013 weakened, but with a clear voice \u2013 was still able to say the Easter blessing at the end of his journey. A final act of his ministry that moved many deeply.<\/p>\n

Und tats\u00e4chlich war das Pontifikat von Franziskus gepr\u00e4gt von Aufbruch und Hoffnung. Seine zug\u00e4ngliche Art, nahe bei den Menschen, hat der Kirche ein freundliches Gesicht gegeben. Unter ihm wurde die Weltsynode, an der die unterschiedlichsten Str\u00f6mungen am Tisch sa\u00dfen, m\u00f6glich. Frauen wurden in leitende \u00c4mter bef\u00f6rdert. Nicht mehr tragbare Kirchenfunktion\u00e4re wurden entlassen. Sein Einsatz f\u00fcr die Bewahrung der Sch\u00f6pfung (Laudato Si\u2019), f\u00fcr soziale Gerechtigkeit und seine klare Position zu Fragen von Migration und Armut haben das Bild der katholischen Kirche in den letzten Jahren stark gepr\u00e4gt.<\/p>\n
Ich habe Hochachtung vor dem Mut dieses Kirchendieners, der viel in Bewegung gesetzt hat. Ber\u00fchrend war es, dass er \u2013 geschw\u00e4cht, aber mit klarer Stimme \u2013 am Ende seines Weges noch den Ostersegen sprechen konnte. Ein letzter Akt seines Dienstes, der viele tief bewegt hat.<\/p>\n
