New leadership for the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe

Election of the Presidium und General Secretary

The freshly elected Council at the CPCE’s Assembly in Florence has elected the new Presidium and appointed the organisation’s General Secretary during its inaugural meeting on 25th September 2012. The tripartite Presidium consists of Gottfried Locher, Klára Tarr Cselovszky and Friedrich Weber, with Friedrich Weber being appointed to the position of Executive President.

Dr. Friedrich Weber has held the office of Bishop of the Protestant Lutheran Regional Church of Braunschweig since 2002 and had already been appointed prior to the General Assembly to lead the CPCE’s delegation to the consultations between the Roman Catholic Church and the Community of Protestant Churches in Europe that are due to commence in February 2013 in Vienna.

Dr. Klára Tarr Cselovszky has been Head of the Department for Ecumenical and External Relations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hungary since 2007 and a member of the Council of the CPCE since 2006. She also belongs to the Steering Committee of the South-Eastern European Regional Group of the CPCE.

Dr. Gottfried W. Locher has been President of the Council of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches since 2011 and until the start of 2012 was Vice-President of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC).

Dr. Michael Bünker, Bishop of the Protestant Church A.C. in Austria, was confirmed in office as General Secretary of the CPCE for another term by the new Presidium. Bünker has held this office since 2007. The headquarters of the CPCE remain situated in Vienna.
