The Shape and Organisation of Protestant Churches in a Changing Europe

The doctrinal discussion was carried out between 2002 and 2006.

The point of departure is the project guidelines (see below) drawn up on the basis of a resolution of the Belfast Assembly and adopted by the Executive Committee.

The study was to consider the consequences of the ecclesiology study of 1994. The structural and organisational questions of individual churches and especially those of the church fellowship are a matter to be taken seriously in their significance for the witness to the gospel. This holds true particularly due to the fact that the Protestant churches are still largely organised at a national level whereas Europe is increasingly integrating.

The document that was prepared by a study group 2002-2005 and revised taking account of the comments of the churches was received with gratitude and approval by the General Assembly 2006. You can download the final version with the changes implemented by the GA.
